Single-layer composite Pipes
Compared to traditional metal pipes, polyethylene is an electrical insulator.
When non-polar liquids such as petrol flow through the pipes, static electricity is generated and gradually builds up on the inner surface, when the energy reaches a certain level and comes into contact with a conductor, a sparking discharge occurs, which is likely to ignite the oil and gas in the pipes and lead to accidents such as fires or explosions.

In order to avoid pinholes, insulated plastic pipes should have a dielectric breakdown strength of more than 100 kV, measured in accordance with EN 60243-2.
A polyethylene layer with a wall thickness of at least 4 mm is usually guaranteed to exceed this breakdown strength.
